Six months ago my friends said, come to this place called Sacred Grounds and see some local bands we found. My life would be so much different right now if we hadn't gone to that show.

If you know me in real life, I'm sure you've heard me talk about this (and I'm not sure how many people are reading this that don't actually know me in real life, but anyway...)

Falsestart Junkyard was never meant to be just a music/photo/etc. blog. It's the clothing/publishing company that I've been putting together these past few months. So go check out the myspace and make sure you friend it! There's not much there just yet, but there will be soon!

Robots & Racecars: They cover Fraggle Rock for sound check, and their van has Free Candy has a three headed dragon spray painted on the side. What more could you want from a band? (Also, their music is pretty okay, I suppose.)

looking forward to the future

A few things I am currently looking forward to:

» The new Fall Out Boy album: Folie À Deux, to be released on election day (Nov. 4th). If you think my big plans for that day are anything other than going to vote and then driving to the store to pick up this album, you are sorely mistaken. (The announcement of this record was the culmination of the “Citizens for Our Betterment” viral marketing scheme which, was tracked very thoroughly by this website.)

» Robots and Racecars upcoming EP, which at one point was being called “Robots and Racecars Are Out of Their Element.” However, that was over a month ago and who knows how many name changes it’s gone through since then. Guitar and drum tracks have been recorded and they are currently working on vocals. Nicholas assures me that it will be “epic.”

The Loved Ones

» All Aboard: A Tribute To Johnny Cash. Even more than the Gaslight Anthem track, I’m looking forward to the Loved Ones cover of my all time favorite Johnny Cash song, Cocaine Blues. This is the one thing I have to wait the least for as it comes out next week! UPDATE: Apparently I spoke too soon, because the release has been pushed back to October 21st.

» The Decemberists are putting out a series of singles entitled “Always the Bridesmaid” to be released in three volumes, starting in October. They are also currently in the studio recording their next LP. That is a lot new music and that makes me very happy, as it has been far too long for my taste. Also, they must have heard me complaining about how they haven’t toured in forever, because they are going back out and will once again be hitting up The Electric Factory in Philadelphia, where I last saw them two years ago. Their complete tour dates can be found here.

You can now stream the Fall Out Boy's new single, "I Don't Care" at falloutboyrock.com or the band's myspace.

It's not what I was expecting after hearing the ten second clip that was aired last week, to be honest, it's so much better. Patrick Stump, I would listen to you sing the back of a box of cheez-its, but I much prefer this.

can't keep up with what I got

There are many bands and many, many shows that I want to talk to you about, including but not limited to: The Appreciation Post, Fall Out Boy, The Gaslight Anthem, and Steel Train.

But as I do not have the time at present, I give you this video of The Hush Sound covering The Beatles:

it's a grand old party but it's not for me

The Hush Sound perform a new song entitled, "We Believe in Barack Obama" at the Philly date of the Dance Across the Country tour.

As if I needed more reasons to love this band.

the story so far

It's that time again. Time to play the viral marketing game. Last time it was Panic at the Disco and The Hush Sound and this time, well, likely suspects are Fall Out Boy and...Copeland?

I began following these developments when Decaydance posted a myspace bulletin saying that their website had been hacked. The "hack" turned out to be a page of ascii art of the front of their site. Credit for the hack had been taken by "Citizens For Our Betterment," whose website appeared to be something vaguely political.

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz was photographed holding a flyer for the organization and their were rumors of Brendon Urie of Panic at the Disco having the web address on his guitar which spurred on the connection to Fall Out Boy and/or FBR/Decaydance.

Last night Absolute Punk posted a news article saying that the Citizens For Our Betterment site had been updated. As it turns out, it was in fact a different website, the address for which was www.citizensfourourbetterment.com. All links from the new site led to runrightbacktothestart.com which led visitors to a flash maze, the conclusion of which was youaremysunshinealbum.com, the only thing on this site was a polaroid and a date, October 14th. Then the clues started piling up and it looked more and more like You Are My Sunshine was a new Copeland record and that the two separate sites had nothing to do with one another.

An then, as always, Pete Wentz happened. The newest update on his Meelikey blog was posted today and contains the above photo of Wentz, the text underneath simply reads "they said it you run right back to the start." And finally, Absolute Punk posted another news article this afternoon, entitled For Our Betterment, alerting Fall Out Boy fans that they should make sure to watch FNMTV this friday.

The most popular reigning theory among the AP.net posters seems to be that FOB is going to once again try for their seven continent world record and they are taking Copeland with them. Whatever the outcome, this certainly has been interesting to watch unfold.

(A more indepth overview can be found here, thanks to imtimwhoareyou from ap.net.)

coming through on grandmama's radio

The Gaslight Anthem's new album, The '59 Sound comes out tomorrow and I really cannot recommend it enough. I attended their cd release show at the Knitting Factory last Saturday and they were even more amazing than I remember them being when I first saw them back in February.

The '59 Sound is more of everything I love about this band: Springsteen influenced punk with a healthy dose of soul and blues. I cannot get enough of Brian Fallon's voice, when talking to the crowd he sounds like any dude from 2008, but once he starts singing it's like you're listening to someone who grew up in the 40's, I don't know how he does it, but I'm glad. Listening to this album makes me want to jump into a Cadillac and play this album as loud as I can while driving down back roads on a summer night.

I'm not sure if any of that made sense to anyone but me, but I'd like to leave you with a quote from one of my favorites in the music industry, which sums up my feelings on this band better than I ever could:

"Go see them live when they come to your town. It's like church. Or a revival. A revival of what music is supposed to feel like. Meet me by the river's edge and we'll enjoy it together." - Steven Smith, SURS

what's new for fall

AbsolutePunk.net has announced that Panic At The Disco will be touring this fall with The Plain White T's and Dashboard Confessional. (My sources say that The Cab will also be joining them on this tour.) No dates yet, I'm just interested to see what sort of turn out this tour is going to bring, I like all of these bands to varying degrees but Panic and Dashboard aren't two bands I would have pegged for touring together.

Meanwhile, The Mountain Goats will be touring the across the U.S. through October and November. You can find dates and venues on their website.

However the tour I'm really looking forward to is still being kept under wraps. Back in June I asked Andrew Volpe if Ludo had plans to tour more after Warped. The answer I got was, yes, but they're not allowed to talk about it yet. A friend asked a similar question of Tim Convy and got a similar answer.

have you heard the news that you're dead?

You know, I have met some amazing people through the internet. And then every once in a while I get reminded that some people are real assholes.

This is not funny. It's mean-spirited and immature. I know that I am far from alone when I say that Gerard Way is my hero. Why you would want to try and hurt so many people you don't even know is beyond me.

Sometimes for fun I like to imagine up dream tours that I want to go see. My previous favorite was Robots & Racecars and Team Goldie opening on a Ludo headlining tour.
