the story so far

It's that time again. Time to play the viral marketing game. Last time it was Panic at the Disco and The Hush Sound and this time, well, likely suspects are Fall Out Boy and...Copeland?

I began following these developments when Decaydance posted a myspace bulletin saying that their website had been hacked. The "hack" turned out to be a page of ascii art of the front of their site. Credit for the hack had been taken by "Citizens For Our Betterment," whose website appeared to be something vaguely political.

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz was photographed holding a flyer for the organization and their were rumors of Brendon Urie of Panic at the Disco having the web address on his guitar which spurred on the connection to Fall Out Boy and/or FBR/Decaydance.

Last night Absolute Punk posted a news article saying that the Citizens For Our Betterment site had been updated. As it turns out, it was in fact a different website, the address for which was www.citizensfourourbetterment.com. All links from the new site led to runrightbacktothestart.com which led visitors to a flash maze, the conclusion of which was youaremysunshinealbum.com, the only thing on this site was a polaroid and a date, October 14th. Then the clues started piling up and it looked more and more like You Are My Sunshine was a new Copeland record and that the two separate sites had nothing to do with one another.

An then, as always, Pete Wentz happened. The newest update on his Meelikey blog was posted today and contains the above photo of Wentz, the text underneath simply reads "they said it you run right back to the start." And finally, Absolute Punk posted another news article this afternoon, entitled For Our Betterment, alerting Fall Out Boy fans that they should make sure to watch FNMTV this friday.

The most popular reigning theory among the AP.net posters seems to be that FOB is going to once again try for their seven continent world record and they are taking Copeland with them. Whatever the outcome, this certainly has been interesting to watch unfold.
